On Friday September 14 at 4:10pm, my mom, Shirley Cartee passed away due to inoperable pancreatic cancer. In honor of her love, commitment and strength she has shown my family throughout her life, I have decided to participate in the 2008 Leadville 100 Trail Run. The Leadville 100 is a test of endurance strength. Participants have 30 hours to complete 100 miles in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. (www.leadvilletrail100.com)
I would like to use this event as a way to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. If you would please consider pledging an amount per mile with all money collected going to help find a cure for this deadly disease, I would greatly appreciate it. For example, if a person pledges 50 cents per mile and I somehow manage to complete the entire 100 miles, that person would contribute $50.00. I would like to leave you with this brief story about my mom and her strength. After finding out she had inoperable pancreatic cancer and she only had months to live, Mama T spoke these words to her sobbing family, “If a miracle does not happen, I have had a great life”. I cannot speak for you but if I just found out I only had a couple of more months to live, I would have been crying and asking why me, but not Mama T.
